Kenyon-Wanamingo Public School District (ISD 2172) voters approve of the request to increase funding for each student in the next ten years.

The school district’s current authorization of $295.68 is about to expire. It will be replaced by a grant of US$950 per student and will increase at an annual rate of inflation for the next ten years.

The voting result was 995 votes in favor and 549 votes against implementation. There is also a blank ballot.

As of 7:00 a.m. on election day, 1,545 votes cast accounted for 42.1% of registered voters in the school district.

The result of each district is like this. In Kenyon 655 yes, 320 no. In Wanamingo 340 yes, 229 no.

I talked with Bryan Boysen, the head of the KW school, to learn about his reaction to the results. You can hear his comments below.

Other election results include the development of recreational trails by Lakeville voters through the sale of $38,000,000 million in general obligation bonds, construction of new community park facilities, improvements to existing parks and sports fields, construction of outdoor ice caps at Haas Arena, and improvements to the arts and environment learning Center.

7,346 Lakeville residents voted in favor and 4,681 people voted against it. In Lakeville, 45,979 registered voters cast 12,029 votes. Approximately 26.2% turnout rate.

The Lakeville School District (ISD 194) asked voters whether they should increase the number of school boards from six to seven. It passed, 8,147 to 3,684. The total number of votes was 11,831. The area includes more than just Lakeville. The total number of these voter registrations is currently not available.

Lakeville school district voters also elected Cinta Schmitz to replace the board of directors in a close match. Schmitz received 5,974 votes or 49.69%, while Carly Anderson received 5,793 votes or 48.18%. That may require a recount.

In Lonsdale Tom Rud was elected Mayor with 396 votes cast. There are 303 votes cast. Obviously many people did not vote for the mayor, because a total of 864 votes were cast for the Lonsdale City Council. The results are:

As of 7:00 a.m. on election day, the 864 votes cast accounted for approximately 32% of the registered voters in Lonsdale.

As of press time, there are some other school district results that have not yet been announced. Hope they can be used in our 7:05 AM report on KDHL 920 AM, 97.9 FM, KDHL applications.
