Police are looking for two teenagers who allegedly smashed their way into a home in Bergen County early Thursday before leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car they later dumped in Essex County.

A home surveillance camera captured two teens — believed to be between ages 13 to 16 — at the sliding glass door of a home in Woodcliff Lake. Seconds later, the video show one of the teens throwing a heavy rock, smashing the door open about 12:45 a.m.

The burglars jumped into a previously stolen 2019 Alfa Romero Stelvio and led a responding officer on a high-speed chase, authorities said.

While fleeing, the teens nearly struck a second responding officer’s patrol car, according to police. “The officer was able to swerve to avoid a head-on collision,” police said in a statement.

The chase ended when police in Woodcliff Lake and a neighboring town terminated the pursuit for safety reasons, the statement said. The stolen car was later found abandoned in Newark, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Woodcliff Lake police at 201-391-8222.
