ADA -- The brand-new village radar speed signs are now up, and getting a BIG “thumbs up” (literally) from some of the village councilmembers.

That is, if the sign detects you’re going 35 mph, or less, entering the village, not only does the sign show your speed – but you also get a BIG “thumbs up” display.

Councilmember Bob Simmons, who was recently out and about, said he witnessed more than a few motorists slow down significantly approaching the signs, which are located on West Lima Ave (approaching from the west) and Lincoln Ave (approaching from the east).

Ada Police Chief Michael Harnishfeger said the signs can be programmed from, say, an app. on a phone. What’s more, data about the number of cars, the various rates of speed, and so on, are also recorded. And the Police Department will be doing periodic comparative analysis with the data.

Ada Fiscal Officer Patty Navin is also dealing with comparative analysis figures, and such, as well. She said RITA figures show there are approximately 900 non-tax filers this year in the village. Subsequently, letters about the delinquencies are going out to those residents soon.

Ms. Navin, who is also helping coordinate the Ada Pool this season, noted there are just three and a half weeks to go for local swimmers. And she reported things continuing to go well at the pool.

Chief Harnishfeger also reported that all his officers have already completed the yearly state mandated 24 hours of training (use of force, surveillance techniques, and so on). He also noted that a good number of police departments statewide haven’t even begun the training, and he was pleased with how the training scheduling, and so on, was coordinated in his department.

Ada Village Administrator Jamie Hall said that “…as we speak,” the main water tower was being filled as one of the final stages of the water tower rehab project. Mr. Hall said some of the water will be taken to a lab in Lima to be tested before everything is a go.

Mr. Hall also noted that there had been some problems with the initial application of the new ONU logo on the water tower. But several corrections were made with a second application, and Mr. Hall said that it was his opinion the logo now looks quite good.

He added some finishing touches on the tower will include installing LED lights, as well as grass seed and mulch around the base of the tower. He added that he anticipates everything should be completed sometime next week.
