It only took more than a week for the release of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and we already have the first mobile phone officially using the new flagship chipset. Welcome to Motorola Edge X30. It comes in two versions, the X30 Special Edition is equipped with a stylish under-screen selfie camera, while the regular X30 uses a punch solution. The remaining specifications of the two phones are the same. Motorola also released the Snapdragon 888+ equipped with Moto S30 on the stage.

Motorola Edge X30 is equipped with a 6.7-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. The regular version has a tiny perforated cut under the earpiece for a 60MP selfie camera, with a 1/2.8-inch sensor and 0.61 micron pixels.

The special edition uses the same module, but hides it under the display, and it will be interesting to see how the two overlap each other.

The displays on both X30 phones can natively output 10-bit color and HDR+ content.

According to Motorola's test, compared with the Snapdragon 888+ chip, the X30 should provide a 20% leap in CPU performance, 30% GPU score, and an astonishing 400% improvement in AI tasks. These numbers match those quoted by Qualcomm in its 8 Gen 1 announcement. Motorola shared the X30's AnTuTu score of 1,061,361 points, the highest score of the platform so far. The phone also uses fast LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

Motorola Edge X30 main specifications

On the back, we have a 50MP master cam, OV50A 1/1.55 inch sensor with OmniVision and OIS. When 4in1 pixel binning is applied, it has 2.0μm pixels. There is a second 50MP ISOCELL S5KGM1 ultra-wide shooter, and the third sensor is a 2MP depth-of-field module. You can record up to 4K videos locally.

Edge X30 is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, supports 68W wired charging, and the software front end is covered by Android 12.

The Motorola Edge X30 8/128GB version starts at RMB 3,199 (US$501). There is also an 8/256GB version, priced at 3,399 yuan ($532), and a 12/256GB version, priced at 3,599 yuan ($564). The X30 special edition with UD camera is priced at RMB 3,999 (US$627). The first sale will take place in China on December 15th.

Although from now on, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be all the rage on the Android flagship, but this does not mean that its predecessor has suddenly slowed down. Snapdragon 888+ is at the helm of Motorola's Edge S30, which is the manufacturer's new mid-to-high-end product. It uses a 6.8-inch IPS LCD panel with FHD+ resolution and variable refresh rate, which can be as high as 144Hz or as low as 48Hz depending on the task at hand.

The camera department has a 108MP main sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide snapper and a 2MP depth assistant next to it. The front camera can take 16MP photos. You can also get a 5,000 mAh battery here, but the 33W charging speed is slower. Unlike its flagship brother, Moto Edge S30 launches Android 11.

The retail price of the benchmark 6/128GB version of the Motorola Edge S30 is RMB 1,999 (USD 313). The top 12/256GB version is priced at RMB 2,599 (US$407). Official sales tips on December 21st.

Motorola is fighting back. Just imagine the profit margins of Samsung and iPhone. If it can be sold in that price range, then a $1,000 device must be an overpriced device, and only the camera is its main advantage. The camera under the display is a plus.

The worst flagship phone ever and the most expensive phone ever, such as seriously cultivating F, try oppo phones and then talk about buddies, let alone other android phones. Tell them to grow up and start selling at a medium price so people will start buying me...

Nice phone, I like Motorola
