This afternoon, the Pascagoula Public Library cut the ribbon on their new teen center.

The library created a safe space for teens to hang out after school. On the second floor you’ll find four free arcade games, touch table battleship, free printing up to five pages, lounge chairs, bean bags, and plenty of books.

A $4,500 grant from the Mississippi Library Commission and $1,700 from the Pascagoula Friends of the Library made this space possible.

Jackson and George Library System Director Angie Stewart said, “We don’t want them wandering around on the street with nothing to do. We want them to be in a clean comfortable, welcoming environment where they feel like they belong where they can find books to read, where they can learn things, where they can socialize. It’s in a place where their parents are not afraid to have them come to the public library.”

After the ribbon cutting, a cupcake decorating competition fed the kids a sweet treat.
