Following the debut of the impressive 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, we are now waiting for Apple to complete the transition from Intel -> ARM CPU. The remaining Intel Macs include the 27-inch iMac, the higher-end Mac mini and the Mac Pro.

As we have seen on the new laptop, switching to Apple Silicon is also an opportunity for the company to upgrade its products. This morning, display analyst Ross Young said on Twitter that he expects Apple to launch a 27-inch iMac in the first quarter of 2022 with a mini-LED 120Hz display, just like the display in the MacBook Pro launched this week The screen is the same.

Ross Young has a very reliable track record in predicting Apple's display component supply chain commitments. In fact, he was basically the only one who suggested that the new MacBook Pro will have a high refresh rate of 120Hz before the Unleashed event, and he is of course correct.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg said that Apple had postponed the development of the 27-inch iMac to focus on the launch of the 24-inch. It is expected that the 27-inch will arrive sometime in 2022. The 24-inch iMac uses a standard M1 chip. Although it has an interesting and colorful design, it is not really aimed at professionals.

It is expected that 27 inches will become Apple's professional all-in-one product, which will fill the (discontinued) iMac Pro gap. The 120Hz mini-LED display is undoubtedly part of this puzzle. There is no word on whether this 27-inch machine will have a notch (although the iMac has a much larger frame than a laptop, so the notch should be unnecessary).

Based on the internal structure of the 2021 MacBook Pro, we can expect the upcoming 27-inch iMac to have a similar heat dissipation shell. This means that it is likely to be equipped with M1 Max SoC. There are also rumors that Apple is developing an SoC with twice the CPU and GPU cores of the M1 Max, which may also be an option for large iMacs.

As shown in the internal roadmap leaked by Bloomberg, Apple is also developing quad-core with 40-core CPU and 128-core GPU. This huge chip is expected to be used in the upcoming ARM Mac Pro.

Apple has previously stated that it will complete the transition of Apple Silicon within two years, and as of today, about a year has passed. So, at least, we should expect the ARM Mac mini, iMac and Mac Pro to debut before the winter of 2022. Most likely, Apple will announce all these machines in the first half of next year.
