TCL China Star Optoelectronics' (or CSOT) booth at SID Display Week 2022 was nominated as one of the best found in the 2022 event's Innovation Zone, as some of the prototypes on display might illustrate. They may also outline the company's plans for the future of its offerings in spaces from VR to in-car displays.
To that end, one of its display models consisted of a viewer through which an SID Week attendee could try TCL CSOT's new Real RGB LCD-VR panels out. These headset-sized displays might not be OLED, yet have been designed to boost their pixel-density to 1,764 ppi and their refresh rates to 90 or 120Hz.
TCL asserts that these advancements can help address common VR-use adverse effects such as vertigo and the screen-door effect. The new 8-inch flexible screen with a new 360° "stress-free, self-compensating" hinge was another example of emerging panel types. This one is rated to fold inward with a bending radius of R1.5 and outward with one of R6.
On that note, TCL CSOT also revealed a new 34-inch mini-LED display with an 1500R spec. Not only is this an unusually small example of its panel-type, it is to be aimed at e-sports use-cases with a 165Hz refresh rate and FreeSync Premium Pro.
The display company also unveiled its latest developments in the tricky and advanced 4-mask 1G1D production process in the form of a new 75-inch 8K mini-LED screen. There was also a new 3K 17.3-inch display designed to bring ultra-thin bezels to its In-Cell touch-enabled LCD range.
Then again, they may have been overshadowed by the ground-breaking 8K OLED prototype unveiled in partnership with JOLED. At 65 inches, it is now the largest example of its resolution produced using the inkjet-printing method.
Finally, it seems TCL CSOT may plan to come for OEMs such as LG with the 12.3-inch Driver Monitor System Under Panel. Not only can it be placed at the front of a car in place of a dashboard, it also hides the cameras (with apparently reduced IR transmittance for increased clarity) necessary to pass Euro NCAP and GSR requirements for automotive safety.
