NDSU advances to the FCS quarter-finals, the Vikings go to Detroit

The NDSU Bison football team, SCSU women’s basketball team, Minnesota Wild and St. Cloud Norsemen all won on Saturday, while the SCSU men’s hockey team, Gopher men’s hockey team and SCSU men’s basketball team all failed to win. On Sunday, the Gopher men's basketball team will play away against Mississippi State University, while the Minnesota Vikings will play against Detroit at Ford Stadium.

- no. 2 Bison defeated Southern Illinois 38-7 in the second round of the FCS Championship, continuing their impressive game. Camille completed 14 88 yards and 9 interceptions, but added 13 passes for 61 yards and two rushing touchdowns for NDSU. TaMerik Williams had 17 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. The Bison’s overall record improved to 11-1 and will host No. 7 East Tennessee at 11:00 on Saturday morning.

-The SCSU women's basketball team defeated Bemidji State University 69-51 at home on Saturday, extending the winning streak to four games. Brehna Evans scored 17 points for St. Cloud, leading all scorers. Tori Wortz scored 13 points, while Erin Navratil and Nikki Kilboten each scored 10 points. The Huskies improved their record to 5-1 and will host the University of Mary at 7:30 on Friday night.

-The Wild team defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3. Marcus Foligno, Jordan Greenway and Mats Zuccarello all scored for the Minnesota team, and Kirill Kaprizov won the team in the penalty kick. The wild increased to 17-6-1. Next, they will head to Edmonton to face the 16-6-0 Oilers.

-The Nordics completed their weekend sweep of the Northern Iowa Bulls with a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday. Dylan Gajewski led all scorers in the Bulls' two goals. Ryan O'Neill, Kade Peterson and Blake Perbix each scored a goal for St. Cloud. Thomas Bollo made 23 saves and scored two goals. -The SCSU men’s hockey team was unable to stop the rally from Fighting Hawks and fell behind the weekend series by a score of 5-3. Kyler Kupka, Nick Perbix and Kevin Fitzgerald each scored a goal for St. Cloud. The Huskies' record dropped to 10-6 points and will take a few weeks off before heading to Bemidji State University to face the Beavers on Friday, December 31st.

-The Gopher men's hockey team lost to Michigan 6-2 on Saturday to evenly split the weekend series. Michael Pastujov led all the scorers with three goals for the Wolverines. Grant Cruikshank and Bryce Brodzinski each scored a goal for Minnesota. The Gophers are behind 10-8, and will rest in January and resume action again.

-The SCSU men's basketball team trailed 97-83 in the shootout with Bemidji State University. Derek Thompson led all scorers with 33 points for the Beavers. Anthony Roberts leads St. Cloud with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. The Huskies fell to 4-5 and will host the University of Mary at 5:30 pm on Friday
